How To Treat Yourself in the Dental Aisle
When we think of pampering ourselves, we often conjure up visions of a spa day complete with a facial, massage and a variety of other relaxing treatments. But guess what? Your mouth needs pampering, too! And one way to give your mouth the royal treatment that it deserves is by visiting the dental aisle in your local pharmacy or grocery store and investing in quality products. Because let’s face it, our mouths experience a lot of activity on a daily basis. Being in constant motion to help us talk, enunciate, chew, swallow and breathe, our mouths are always working and we rarely take a moment to slow down and recognize what they accomplish for us day in and day out.
It’s time we cater to our mouths, so take a walk down the aisle with us & let us paint this picture of luxury that you may be having trouble envisioning…
Upgrade to an Electric Toothbrush
An electric toothbrush offers gentle vibrations designed to clean your teeth better and more efficiently than a manual toothbrush. Additionally, the speed of the bristles is more measured, controlled and effective than what we can accomplish with a manual toothbrush, which is very helpful when it comes to adequately removing plaque. Electric toothbrushes also function to relax both the muscles and tissues of your mouth, which tends to boost blood flow. We currently recommend Oral-B iO.
Treat Yourself to a New Toothpaste Flavor
It’s true, sometimes we’re just simply afraid of what we don’t know. Most of us have been brushing with mint-flavored toothpaste for as long as we can remember, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Tried and true, it may be just the flavor for you. However, there are a variety of other toothpaste flavors available today that you may not even be aware of, so let’s take a peek at just some of what’s out there:
- Cinnamon
- Apricot
- Peach
- Fennel
- Mango
- Coconut
- Pina-Colada
Whatever you choose, remember that this is still toothpaste and not something that will be planting you on an island in a lounge chair with your favorite fruity libation in-hand. So brush wisely!
Satisfy Sensitive Teeth
If you’re an individual who has sensitive teeth, then it’s time you focus on finding a toothpaste that is designed to enhance your comfort level while brushing. You’ll want to look for a product like Sensodyne, with a low-abrasive rating (RDA rating below 70) and one that contains an adequate amount of fluoride and desensitizing medications. We’d also recommend that you try to avoid struggling with eating hot and cold foods as these can trigger and exacerbate sensitivity. But that’s a story for another post.
Locate an Effective Whitening Agent
We do recommend that you visit your dentist for the most effective teeth whitening treatment. That being said, you can complement what you get done professionally with an at-home care treatment as a maintenance solution. For a home whitening treatment, we recommend Opalescence Go. You can buy this product at our office as it’s not available in stores.
Check Out Available Flossing Tools
Flossing. We know it’s often viewed as the least favorite part of an oral hygiene routine. If you’re still struggling with flossing correctly, not only can we help you to correct your technique, but we can also shed some light on flossing tools that may make this venture more appealing. Cruise down that aisle and seek out items like: traditional or waxed floss, dental tape, disposable floss picks and, drum roll… a water-flosser! Water flossers use pressurized water to aid in cleaning around and in between teeth. Similarly to pressure washing the siding of a house, water flossers shoot a jet of water to remove dental plaque. Doesn’t that sound fun? It’s like a water park for your mouth!
The bottom line is that you should focus on treating yourself and your mouth to quality products the way that you seek out quality options to improve other aspects of your body and overall health. Quality dental products are out there & they deserve to be discovered, used and appreciated! As always, feel free to contact us with any questions, concerns or for recommendations on any dental products.
