Why a Hybrid Denture May Be a Good Solution
Before you can understand if a hybrid denture may be a suitable option for you, it’s important that you first know a little bit more about implant dentistry, what a hybrid denture is, how it functions, and when or why you might be a good candidate for this service option.
What is a Hybrid Denture?
A hybrid denture is a type of natural-looking implant supported denture designed to improve the support and strength of your dentures. Simply put, a hybrid denture is a permanent set of teeth that looks, feels and functions like natural teeth. Like removable dentures, a hybrid denture replaces your teeth. But, a hybrid denture is secured with screws to dental implants and cannot be removed without the help of a dentist. Creams and adhesives are not needed to secure hybrid dentures in place thereby eliminating gum irritation. Hybrid dentures also do not require coverage on the roof of your mouth which improves taste compared to a conventional denture. Additionally, bite strength is increased, allowing for an increased range of food options.
Why is a Hybrid Denture a Good Option?
We understand that losing teeth can be really hard on a person, both physically and emotionally. There is a psychological component that must be addressed to ensure you are comfortable with any procedure that we recommend for you. As with all of our services, we would first perform a comprehensive evaluation to determine if implanting a hybrid denture is necessary and would be a good fit for you. If a patient comes into our office and has teeth that are helpless and lacking any option for saving, then a hybrid denture can be a good immediate option. The ultimate goal of implanting a hybrid denture is to help a patient feel comfortable and confident when smiling, speaking and eating again.
How Do I Care for My Hybrid Denture?
Like your natural teeth, caring for your hybrid denture (and the areas surrounding it) requires proper daily cleaning. It is best to brush with a non-abrasive denture toothpaste twice a day. Use short back and forth strokes to clean the outer, inner and chewing surfaces of your teeth as well as the acrylic surfaces of the hybrid denture. We understand that caring for your implant can be challenging as you also need to be mindful of caring for the tissue underneath it. A hybrid denture is designed to leave a small space between the device and the gum tissue, which allows for cleaning without having to remove the denture. Further, the harder to reach area between the denture and natural gums needs to be cleaned daily to remove plaque and excess food particles. You can use super floss to thread through this space, or an interdental brush, water or air flosser to help maintain healthy gum tissue and keep your denture free of infection-causing bacteria. By maintaining a proper care routine, you prevent implant-related gum disease and the potential loss of the dental implant itself.
How Long Does a Hybrid Denture Last?
When properly cared for, a hybrid denture can last indefinitely. This is incredibly significant when compared to its counterpart, traditional removable dentures, which typically last between 5-8 years.
How Much Does a Hybrid Denture Cost?
If a hybrid denture is a good option for you, we will most certainly thoroughly discuss the financial implications and investment before moving forward with the procedure.
